Classic Mid-Century Contemporary Design
The Ultimate in Mid-Century Design Designed in 1953 by renowned American industrial designer and architect Walter Dorwin Teague to celebrate Steinway & Sons 100th Anniversary, the Steinway & Sons Sketch 1111 “Mid Century Contemporary” is a rare and unique piano. This specific piano has been completely rebuilt to its original specifications by the world-renowned craftsman at the Steinway & Sons factory in New York. Often referred to as the "Dean of Industrial Design,” Teague’s design for this piano includes pedal assembly completely out of brass and contemporary legs featuring brass ferrules.
Teague is recognized as a critical figure in the spread of mid-century modernism in America. He is widely known for his exhibition designs during the 1939-40 New York World's Fair, such as the Ford Building, and his iconic product and package designs, from Eastman Kodak's Bantam Special Camera, the steel-legged Steinway piano, the UPS Truck and retail-space designs for Eastman Kodak and Texaco.
